Hair Fair 2012 : Flower

Hair Fair 2012 : Flower

July 21, 2012 |  by  |  anya ohmai, events, lookbook

Every year Hair Fair brings out a bunch of people from their reclusive states just to join in the excitement of getting more hair for their already bursting inventories. Organizers rallying up deadlines and making sure lags under control, Designers scramble to finish setting up or… finish even, and Bloggers cracking their knuckles, getting ready to either snap shots, type up posts or simply buy a ton of hairs. It’s a bustle of activity for this one great cause, Wigs for Kids.

I was lucky enough to be accepted as a vendor again this year and was definitely slightly late with setting up, but the experience of creating hair is always a stressful and fun project to have. I however was especially excited to do a series of Hair Fair posts like I did last year, which was one of the more inspiring blog posts to do. Possibly cause my brain seems to like working in little mini themes.

This year instead of 15, I have cut it down to 12 and I’m attributing to the fact that there were a lot of mesh hairs about this year, and my head simply doesn’t fit those very well. The lack of modifying aspect in most mesh hairs also makes it difficult to customize. This is something that greatly annoys me when it comes to anything rigged, its no fault of anyone of course. If there was some way of modifying the hair, either providing 1 copy which is rigged no modify and one copy that’s unrigged modify – it might really save people a ton of problems in terms of head fit (rather than an alpha). At the same time, some designers have figured out smart ways of splitting the hair into 2 sections, making the ones nearing the forehead or scalp area unrigged/modify and the ones that gets affected by movement, rigged/no modify. Just a suggestion that might help mesh hair designers out there!

I’ll start my series with the Flower sim first, as that was really the first sims I began shopping from.

MY PICKS FROM THIS SIM

The biggest reason of why I began on this sim is really because my favorite Hair Store in SL Lamb was located here. This year lamb brings not only a full female selection but also 1 male/unisex style. I love Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart; it’s one of those hairs from lamb that just fits a myriad of shapes and faces. The biggest reasons why this store is a huge love of mine is that handdrawn appeal and also how her styles are always feminine but never stuffy, that always increases versatility in wearable occasions.

ISON and Alice Project were two stores that I particularly loved over on this sim as well. For ISON, I believe these hairs were Harry Hyx’s first few hairstyles and I hope there’ll be more to come because like every other piece he does, it’s polished and elegant. The color choices were great and the hair bases provided were really lovely too. Alice Project has been creating mesh hairs none stop and I love the HUD that comes with all the hairs cause you end up so spoiled by the choices available. You can go for brave colors without having to pay additional for a pack, or just use them as streaks. The colors you use really changes the way a hair feels for a look and that’s another way to increase the versatility of the hairstyle.

Pr!tty’s fluffy soft hair reminds me a lot of magika’s kinda softness, which is great and they have a reaaally cute pink color that I had to show in one of the pictures. Hair Studio One is a store I was unfamiliar with, but Hair Fair is one of those events that kinda push me to try different styles even if I may not usually wear them – dreads being one of those cases. Their dreaded styles are really interesting and realistically done.

Kik and D!va are both Asian brands that I’ve been a loyal fan of and I’m really excited to see them both participating in Hair Fair this year again. Kik has always been very creative with her hairs, I wasn’t fitting her mesh ponytail very well though even though I desperately wanted to. The hair I showcased however ended up being of my favorites from this sim. And D!va has always made super feminine styles, I showed one of their mesh hairs which is FULL – very full, hairs in mesh tend to somehow fall flat above my head but not D!va’s which sits very nicely shape wise.

NOTE**

I accidentally folderized Nikita Fride into this sim when they truthfully belong to the Garden sim, so I’ll be moving 1 Flower brand to the Garden sim coverage just to play fair. But Nikita Fride’s Rocked hair really was one of those brave badass hairs I’d never wear outside of Hair Fair, but is truly an awesome piece of art.

Onward to the pictures!
